The Hermit Tarot Meaning

The Hermit is a card that has us take a pause, find space to breathe and slow down. After the energy of The Chariot and the Strength card, The Hermit is a welcome retreat into the self. It gives us some time to take stock and see what’s changed, what’s suffered wear and tear on this current journey, heal and come back stronger and with a clearer sense of self.

The Hermit is the classic outsider archetype, the wise man, the sage. It’s Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars, it’s Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings, it’s Miss Havisham in Great Expectations. It represents a figure who retreats from the world, with only themselves to reflect on. This solitude allows for greater introspection and allows us to emerge back into the conscious world with greater insight and wisdom.
