Strength Tarot Meaning

The Strength card represents the return to a wilder and more natural state of being. It’s a card that reminds us of our humanness and the difference between our base selves and social selves. On the traditional Rider Waite tarot cards, you’ll see a figure soothing a lion, illustrating how we as social creatures will often subdue our more wildish nature.

It’s this wild nature, though, that gives us strength. It is the ability to fight for what we believe in or what we are passionate about. Our inner beast is what keeps us alive and keeps us safe. However, if we let it take the wheel completely, we can find this nature to be destructive or counterproductive. For example, our human fight or flight response. With little control or care, this response can cause issues such as anxiety or panic disorders. Strength reminds us to find a balance with this nature so that we can function to our best ability.
