I've spoken about it before, but I genuinely thought I was living in a balanced and healthy way until I forced myself to completely stop and take a big step out of the life I was living.

I've preached about slow living so much and I was like 'Yeah that's how I live' until I slowed things down to a complete stop and then I was like 'Ohhhhhhh... ok yeah I was definitely not living slow' 🐌

I think there's a big difference between physically slowing down and mentally slowing down. It's kind of like when you were a kid and you'd spin around really fast, when you stop spinning your body can be still but your mind is all over the place. You can think you're slowing down and resting when you take time to have a nice bath, read a book, or go for a run, but what is your mind doing? And what is your mind doing in the hours and days after that?

Every little helps of course it does, but it's not always enough. If you're like 'Why don't I feel calmer, I spent 10 minutes meditating this morning' take a look at the bigger picture. Are you trying to put one of those pointless little circular plasters you get in a multipack over a gaping wound? Is that 10 minutes of meditation a drop in the ocean compared to the amount of stress you're under? Make your rest periods slightly longer than the amount of time you spend stressing and watch how the balance shifts.

Now, I'm off to go and try and practice what I preach 🙈

I started learning Tarot properly in 2019. I'd always been interested in it and I'd tried a few times to teach myself how to read the cards over the years, but it wasn't until I was living in New Zealand and dealing with homesickness that I decided to distract myself in the evenings with an online Tarot course.

I've written a couple of blogs now about what I wish I'd known when I first started reading Tarot, but I thought I'd put together a little list here about everything I wish I'd known earlier about what it really means to have Tarot reading as a skill.

🔮 It would massively help with practising mindfulness and keeping me grounded when in a mental spiral
🔮 It's a bit like having a cosmic BFF that knows all your secrets and is always there to offer honest advice and guidance
🔮 It's way more interesting and complex than the media and society make you believe! It is like a compendium of centuries of cultures, philosophies and religions and there is an unending rabbit hole to get stuck into with it
🔮 It's not about being able to tell you your future, it's about being able to better understand the self and the present
🔮 It can help you be more aware of your behaviours and negative patterns, effectively helping you be a better human and feel like a better human

I created a workshop a while ago titled 'Tarot for Reconnection' and it's been through a couple of changes over the years, especially recently. I created it more so for myself to be perfectly honest. I wanted to put together a way to use Tarot or Oracle cards that could help me figure out what I really wanted, what I truly felt about myself and how I could live in a way that felt more aligned and fulfilling.

This makes it sound like I was trying to create a miracle cure. Of course, it is not otherwise I would be very rich and famous 😆 but what it did do, for me and I know for everyone that has worked through it so far, is help me to wake up to not only how I truly felt about myself, but to also see how I needed to be kinder to myself, how I needed to take better care of myself and how that could have a knock-on effect to other areas of my life.

I used the term 'reconnection' because I felt like I was living on autopilot. I was just thinking the same things every day and doing the same things and not really FEELING life like I thought I should. Doing this 60-minute workshop can help break you out of this rut and give your head a wobble.
