The Four of Pentacles Tarot Meaning

The Four of Pentacles is one of the most steadfast and rooted cards in the tarot. With the stability that comes from the number four and the strudiness that naturally comes with the Pentacles suit, we get a card that feels solid and reliable. However, this doesn’t always suit the situation it finds itself in. For example, this sturdiness may come across as possessive or stubborn if there’s no flexibility at all allowed. However, if a little bit of give is offered, it can instead be a card that offers security and a very nurturing energy for growth and expansion.

Traditionally, the Four of Pentacles was a card that referred to frugality and protectiveness, particularly over our material possessions or finances. If we want to read in a more self-development context, then the meanings become about the protection of the self, keeping elements of the self hidden or under lock and key in order to protect or save parts of yourself from external sources.

This protectiveness can be beneficial if used intentionally and with elements of logical thinking, but if pushed too far, it may cause issues with isolation and detachment. It might make you so unwilling to change or be flexible that you end up pushing things away and isolating yourself from the things that could actually bring you a lot of happiness and contentment.
